The other day I saw a Facebook post about how Rangeview and Gateway High Schools are planning on removing the business department in their schools. My personal problem with this is that how do you expect the kids that aren't athletic or committed to the theater at all to get involved in everything? Do you expect them to get into trouble?
As a member of the FBLA, I learned everything I needed to by taking classes in the business department, and without it I probably would be getting into a lot more trouble. My biggest problem with this is how do you expect any of us to get involved in the school and be apart of something that isn't for the school. How do you expect students to learn how to having confidence when giving presentations or how to learn manage in the business world.
The GIF to the left, is probably the best representation of how all of us students that are in the business program reacted to hearing that some of our peers that we compete against will no longer have the ability to compete along side us anymore.
FBLA has given me the chance of a lifetime. My partner and I competed in the event, “Business Financial Plan” and we have qualified for state which is to be held in Vail, CO in April 2016. As freshmen, it is a huge accomplishment to have qualified for state. Without the help of all of the business teachers and the business department, I wouldn’t be apart of this amazing club that has given me so many experiences already and will have more to come in the next three years at Cherokee Trail High School.
When I first joined FBLA, I was told that it wasn’t cool and that it wouldn’t be fun, but I believe that I probably wouldn’t enjoy high school as much if I didn’t do it. In FBLA I have found a family that I know that I can always rely on and I know that they will always be there for me.
Only in FBLA is where you can learn valuable skills that you can take and use in a career in your future. Sure in sports you learn how to work as a team and how to work hard, but in FBLA you learn valuable skills that the students can use in any career they choose to pursue. The leadership skills and the business knowledge is extremely important to any career, especially one in the business field.
Being in FBLA, you have the abilities to get scholarship for certain schools with the business majors that are competition events in the club. Because of the business programs in high school, it’s giving students a chance to go to college that they wouldn’t be able to other wise.
This business program should be in high schools. It changes lives of so many students and gives them an opportunity to feel welcome and like they belonged. There are business schools all across the state of Colorado, such as; Colorado State University, the University of Colorado, and Northern Colorado.
I believe that
